El fenómeno de Los Prisioneros no tiene fecha de caducidad y esto no es novedad. Todas las generaciones de alguna u otra manera, caen frente a sus melodías envolventes y coros memorables. Yo mismo, cada vez que tomo una guitarra en algún carrete, la fórmula perfecta es empezar a tocar los acordes de “Paramar” o “El Baile de los que Sobran”. Y esta última canción es parte del disco que hablaremos hoy, el gran «Pateando Piedras», que cumple exactamente 30 años desde su lanzamiento.
Pero contextualicemos un poco, Los Prisioneros ya se hacían notar con una popularidad tremenda. El disco “La voz de los 80” se hizo presente en las casas de los chilenos, tanto así que en 1985 se agotaron las copias hechas por el sello Fusión (que albergó a la banda en sus primeros años). Al migrar al sello EMI, sacaron nuevas copias y estos le pidieron que hiciesen su segundo disco cuanto antes.
Es por esto que hay que tener en cuenta que «Pateando Piedras» fue un disco hecho a la rápida, el mismo Jorge González le da un poco de rabia ya que según él, la mitad de las canciones están a medio hacer. A pesar de esto, el disco es un clásico, algunos aseguran que es el mejor disco de la banda. ¿Por qué?, se preguntarán. La respuesta es simple: es un fiel reflejo de la sociedad chilena y que hasta el día de hoy nos identificamos con sus letras.
Pero primero, observemos el tema sonoro antes del lírico. En cuanto a la banda en sí, en el primer álbum sonaba más a una banda clashera (punk, reggae, ska). Ahora pasamos a una sonoridad más llevada por la electrónica, influenciados por Depeche Mode y New Order. Igual esta dirección musical es la que Jorge siempre quiso, prueba de ello es la canción “Eve-Evelyn” del disco debut. Esto es algo realmente arriesgado para una banda que pretendía consolidarse, si bien ya eran populares, el segundo álbum es una confirmación de que el éxito del primero no fue una cosa al azar.
La canción que abre el disco es “Muevan las industrias”, con esos sintetizadores que le brindan un ambiente poderosísimo a la lírica. Noten que empiezan con una forma distinta a la positividad de «La Voz de los 80». De la fuerza que se siente venir, pasan a una canción que habla de la miseria de la gente que las despiden de un día para otro, dejándolas en la calle sin saber qué hacer. Con esta potencia estremecedora le damos al vamos de este disco.
En canciones como “¿Por qué no se van?” tenemos el lado más ácido de la banda, dirigidos a aquellos artistas snobs que creen que su arte es incomprendido y por otro lado en “Quieren dinero” retrata una verdad que hasta ese entonces nadie quería asumir, muchos están donde están por las lucas. Y ésta canción musicalmente es un intento de incorporar el sonido western (que se nota en el riff de guitarra) y el sonido más pop. De hecho, si buscas la canción «I Feel Love» de Donna Summer te darás cuenta que es la misma progresión de acordes.
Tenemos joyitas como “Estar solo” y “Por Favor”, que si bien no son de las canciones más conocidas de la banda, los fanáticos las aprecian mucho. Ambas reflejan ideas de relaciones interpersonales. Así también lo es la canción más baja del álbum y de las más olvidables del catálogo de los sanmiguelinos, me refiero a “Una mujer que no llame la atención”, que al menos tiene una hilarante letra reflejando el machismo clásico chileno. El sonido en estas canciones más Depeche Mode se hace notar mucho más, brindando una oscuridad y misterio.
Tampoco se abandonan los acordes Clasheros en su totalidad, en el track “Por qué los ricos” tenemos este sonido más punk, donde volvemos a estas ideas dominada por las guitarras. Con mucha ironía hablando de que los ricos no son superiores a los pobres intelectualmente, sólo viven en condiciones diferentes.
Dejé para el final dos canciones que, al parecer de este humilde servidor, son de las mejores en cuanto a la brillantez de Jorge González como letrista y compositor. Por un lado, tenemos a “Independencia cultural”, que es el tema que cierra el disco y que ironiza con la falta de identidad que tenemos los chilenos, teniendo que copiar a lo de afuera constantemente hasta en la forma de vestirnos o peinarnos. Esta es una de las lecciones que tenemos que rescatar cada vez que escuchamos este álbum, podemos usar sintetizadores y equipos más sofisticados, pero no olvidemos que tenemos una identidad muy linda. “No te disfraces, no te acomplejes, eres precioso porque eres diferente”…
Y cómo olvidar a la canción que hablé al inicio de este especial, esa que le dio el status de leyenda a Los Prisioneros y que estoy seguro que cada chileno la ha cantado alguna vez en su vida (o al menos imita los sonidos de los perritos ladradores): “El baile de los que sobran”, la cual significa un punto altísimo en la historia de la música chilena. ¿Qué tiene esta canción que nos impacta tanto? Primeramente, es una canción que combina este lado más folclórico/acústico con la parte más dance/electrónica. Y sumado a la letra que refleja esta desigualdad económica que hasta el día de hoy nos cuesta salir. Lo más curioso de esto es que es un track que era de relleno, Jorge la hizo a la rápida para poder completar el minutaje del álbum. Pero esos son detalles, ¿no?
“Pateando Piedras” significa la consolidación completa de nuestra querida banda nacional, más que por hacer un disco de alta fidelidad, sino que por mostrar una honestidad tan única que el pueblo chileno se identificó con ellos. El pop chileno por fin logró su independencia cultural. Este álbum marca el camino de melodías por el que después pasaron Los Tres, La Ley, Los Bunkers, Camila Moreno y Gepe. Y estoy seguro que las futuras generaciones crearán sus acordes en base a lo que Jorge, Miguel y Claudio nos enseñaron. Una vez más, gracias muchachos.
