Luego de vivir 10 años en República Dominicana, el músico chillanejo Vicente Cifuentes se flechó de inmediato con la bachata, género musical nacido en dicha isla caribeña. Allí, inspirado por compositores como Víctor Víctor, Juan Luis Guera y las clases de guitarra de Juan Francisco Ordoñez, el primero en incluir la guitarra eléctrica a la bachata y al son dominicano, se dio cuenta que ese ritmo iba a ser el que determinaría su carrera.
Una carrera que ha ido tomando fuerzas de a poco. A su reciente estreno lo anticipan su EP «Artesano» (grabado entre Chile y RP en 2009), donde se relaciona más con la trova, y su álbum debut «Jajajajajá» (2015), en que dictamina que la bachata es el camino a seguir. En este trabajo pudo estrechar amistad con Allan Leschhörn, ingeniero en sonido de Juan Luis Guerra y que ha ganado 11 veces el Grammy Latino, que también participa en su nuevo disco.
El ánimo de Vicente por componer y toda la experiencia que conlleva habitar la ciudad madre de la bachata, Santo Domingo, se plasman en las cinco canciones de «Bachata Local» (2017), su último EP lanzado hace apenas unos días con un gran concierto en Club Chocolate.
El álbum corta duración comienza con «La Negrita», su primer single lanzado en septiembre de 2016, el cual es una versión tropical de una cueca de Los Chileneros, que luego fue popularizada por Inti Illimani Histórico, conocida como «Yo tenía una negrita» o «Negrita Diabla». En esta canción se mezclan las dos culturas del músico, por un lado la cueca y por el otro la bachata, que a pesar de ser una adaptación muy diferente a la original, mantiene la rítmica del baile nacional.
La fiesta continúa con «Presente», que tiene un gran significado para el músico chileno al contar con la participación a dúo con el compositor dominicano Víctor Víctor, uno de los principales cultores de la bachata junto a Juan Luis Guerra. Ambos se complementan en una canción protesta, en que critican al poder y a las distintas desigualdades que hay en el mundo; desde muertes en plena calle hasta niños muriendo de hambre. Un llamado con puño en alto a problemas que son muchas veces invisibilizados por las autoridades.
El momento más nostálgico llega con «Viento y Tiempo», a dúo con su tocayo dominicano Vicente García, joven cantautor que acumula millones de reproducciones y que cautiva con su sensible y melosa voz. La canción habla sobre volver a un lugar que perdiste rastro por mucho tiempo, adaptarse y comenzar una nueva vida, recordando con nostalgia lo que dejaste atrás.
La siguiente canción titulada «Nacer, crecer, ir y venir» también cuenta con colaboraciones estelares. En esta ocasión tenemos a Pedropiedra, quien invitó a Vicente en su reciente show en Teatro Cariola para cantar «Bachata en Fukuoka» de Juan Luis Guerra y que aporta su granito sabrosón en la canción más prendida del EP. Recordemos que Pedro siempre ha estado muy relacionado con los ritmos latinoamericanos y no es nada extraño verlo en esta faceta, de hecho hace unos días sacó un EP de cumbias. Otra colaboración presente en el cuarto track es la banda nortina Telúrika, que aportaron con los bronces y pequeñas intervenciones vocales.
«Bachata Local» cierra con el tema a dúo con Abel Zicavo (Moral Distraída), «Decir que no».
Siento que Vicente no viene acá a apoderarse de un género ni a llevar la bandera del mejor exponente de este género en el país, porque claramente pueden haber otros u otras. Lo que hace Vicente es tomar ciertas influencias, apoderarse de ellas y revestirla con un toque de chilenidad, lo que le da una autenticidad rica al escuchar. Se remonta a la bachata más cariñosa, más propia y no tan sensual, que actualmente nos tienen acostumbrados artistas como Romeo Santos o Prince Royce. Acá hay un homenaje a los orígenes del género, un género totalmente nuestro, de Latinoamérica.
